This painting is based on sketches of live dancers on Niuafo'ou, the northern-most island of the Kingdom of Tonga, in the South Pacific. The costumes were made from tapa, bark-cloth, tree-hibiscus, coconut fronds and fresh flowers. The women were incredibly graceful and their moves very harmonious.
