The chocolate hermit crab (Coenobita caves) has its name because of its color. It is a nocturnal land crab and visits the ocean only to lay its eggs. This crab is quite large, can be as big as a hand. When picked up it can't withdraw in its shell, so it will run, leaving the empty shell behind. Which is why we handled this one very gently, so it would pose like, like a happy and complete hermit crab.
Judith Kunzle is drawing dancers in action, paints mountains en plein air, and many other subjects she encounters. Judith lived for 30 years in the South Pacific, mostly in the Cook Islands, two years on Hawaii and six years in California. In 2021 she returned to Switzerland.
